Japanese clothing brand Hipshop has released a new line of underwear based on Pokémon, and it’s a bit odd!

Fans may “Diglett” this underwear set as it includes six beloved Pokémon from the first generation: Pikachu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Eevee, Charmander, and Mew. While the positioning of the mouths on the backside is incredibly awkward, the quality of the prints looks great.

When you look at the front, it actually gives you a bunch of stats on the Pokemon like height, weight, and the number they’re classified as. Each underwear is colored to the corresponding creature you choose too, which is a nice touch.

People will indeed know if their partner is a Pokémon master if one decides to wear this! The one bummer is that the Japanese names for the Pokémon are on the top of the underwear, except for Mew and Pikachu. We agree with SoraNews24 that you might have to explain the name difference if one sees it!

The Japanese press release positions the underwear as a possible present for a friend or a loved one with a sleek gift box-like design on the packaging. There’s a neat touch of 5 Pokémon having a typical Pokéball design, and then there’s Mewto Master Ball design.

Translated through Google, we know that these come in various sizes (M/L/LL), and they are made of polyester material with “excellent quick-drying properties and elasticity that wicks sweat quickly.” Hipshop also claims it is soft for the skin. Sounds comfy!

If you’re interested, you can take a Chansey on Hipshop’s store and try to order one for yourself. It does seem to be Japan-exclusive though.

Pokemon is as big as ever as the latest entry Sword & Shield sold over 16 million copies worldwide. In fact, it’s the world’s biggest media franchise (via Business Insider), beating out Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh, and even Star Wars! Merchandising to companies like Hipshop and their bizarre underwear is a small piece of the pie for The Pokemon Company. Did you know it was that huge?

Pokemon has a few games on the horizon, such as New Pokemon Snap from Bandai Namco, and the mobile/Switch MOBA Pokemon Unite from TiMi Studios. Both should have big releases attached to them and likely will drive more merchandise sales.
