The Dota 2 esports team OG has announced that Ceb will be returning to the team after a short hiatus.
The news that Ceb was returning to the active roster was revealed on Og’s Twitter. The brief announcement on July 25 declared that he’d be coming back as the team’s offlane player for Dota 2. They also took the opportunity to thank Sumail on Twitter for filling the position in Ceb’s absence.
OG explained the situation on a blog post on their website. According to OG, Ceb left the active roster in January to reevaluate his life, career, and role on the team. He served as the team’s Head of Performance and his offlane position was taken over by Sumail.
While serving in that role he apparently rediscovered his passion for competition and serving in an active role. While he did well as a coach he was simply more driven to be a player and wanted to return to competing alongside his friends at OG.
They announced he’d be returning to his position in time for the DotaPit tournament which begins on July 27.
Fans responded to the Twitter post with enthusiasm and seemed grateful to have the talented player back on the team. A few were sad to see Sumail go and felt he didn’t have enough time to truly shine with OG. No word has been given on where he’ll be going or what his plans are, though given his talent he’s likely to be picked up by another team very quickly.
There is some concern as to whether Ceb will be able to pick up where he left off. Seven months is a long time for an esports player to take a break from competing and it’s likely his skills will need some polishing.
But if he can dive back in and quickly get back to how he performed last year it’s likely OG will do really well in the upcoming tournament and give the other teams a run for their money.
