CD Projekt Red is going to showcase a new RPG at E3 without dropping the name, but we all know what’s up.
It’s Cyberpunk 2077. It’s just gotta be.
Last January, the Cyberpunk 2077 twitter went “beep” for the first time in four years. Before that, the Polish developers shows off concept art for a game that showed incredible reach even for the time–a cyberpunk RPG along the lines of great cyberpunk stories like Altered Carbon and Blade Runner.
There wasn’t a whole lot else to show, and then The Witcher III came out and took everyone’s attention back to a fantasy setting and away from the cyberpunk dystopian future that we all so richly deserve and are barreling towards at breakneck speeds. So long was our attention focused on The Witcher that CD Projekt Red managed to make it seem like Cyberpunk 2077 was all some collective fever dream brought about by the lack of sci-fi in our lives.
But then January’s beep came, and months later came rumors published on a Polish gaming site that CD Projekt Red would bring a playable version of Cyberpunk 2077 to this year’s E3. It turns out those rumors might be true as we recently got word that CD Projekt Red will indeed be at E3, and more, they’ll be displaying an RPG that is playable on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Is it possible there is some sort of other super-secret RPG that CD Projekt Red has been working on and will unveil that at E3? Sure. And it’s also possible that meteorites will fall from the sky and destroy half the game developers in the western world. But it’s not likely, and since we haven’t gotten any news about a Witcher 4, and since Gwent isn’t an RPG, there’s only one thing left that it could be.
Cyberpunk 2077. It’s coming. And we must all be ready. Dibs on the cyberarm with rocket launcher attachment.
