Despite the slim odds of getting Nvidia’s latest graphics cards, a feat which is on par with wrangling either of the two next-gen consoles, CD Project Red has seemingly managed the impossible by acquiring at least one Founders Edition GeForce RTX 3080.
Crafted by a modder in the guise of CDPR’s forthcoming opus, Cyberpunk 2077, this one-of-a-kind RTX 3080 will be gifted to one lucky lottery winner in a promotional giveaway on the China-based social media platform Bilibili.
The Bilibili giveaway features a bevy of alternative Cyberpunk 2077-themed prizes, including an Xbox controller, world book, Logitech mouse, collector’s edition statue, Secretlab gaming chair, and much more. To enter, however, contestants are required to have a Weibo account, so keep that in mind before attempting to win that shiny 3080.
This wouldn’t be the first time CDPR birthed a Cyberpunk-themed graphics card, as witnessed in the #RTXOn Sweepstakes partnership between it and Nvidia earlier this year. The neon-yellow RTX 2080 Ti definitely remains a head-turner, but the more recent unveiling of Nvidia’s brand-new 30-series line of GPUs, which touts a performance boost of 2x that of the 2080 Ti at nearly half the MSRP, wrote the former into the history books.
Unlike its 2080 Ti predecessor, though, the Cyberpunk 2077-themed RTX 3080 was not made directly by Nvidia. Instead, it was crafted by a modder to suit a more simplistic design over the former’s bright yellow color palette to match the 3080’s sleek finish. So, while not necessarily a “special edition” card from Nvidia itself, this 3080 is certainly still special, not to mention limited to only one of its kind.
It’s as of yet unclear if CDPR is planning to bridge the contest into additional countries and regions, but for now, the giveaway resides solely in China. With Cyberpunk 2077 debuting as of this writing in two weeks’ time, there is no doubt CDPR will be amping up its marketing as the countdown wanes and Night City’s neon-soaked entrails beckons players from the distance.
Wake up, Samurai. It’s time to get ray tracing.
