Catherine released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; it was a unique game that presented players with a strange, yet effective mix of puzzle solving, dating sim, and the horror genre. The game follows Vincent– torn between long-term girlfriend Katherine and a beautiful girl he meets named Catherine, Vincent finds himself plagued by nightmares.
The game re-released in 2019 as Catherine: Full Body for PlayStation 4 and has recently released for the Nintendo Switch too. This new version features several tweaks and improvements, as well as adding new story content, such as high-school flashbacks and introducing a third love interest called Rin (short for Qatherine). In the game, players must choose which girl to pursue, with the fandom choosing its favorites. Not sure who to pick? Maybe these awesome fanart images of Katherine will convince you she’s the one.
10 Chibi Katherine
This adorable little chibi version of Katherine by adrusaurio perfectly manages to capture the personality of Vincent’s long-term girlfriend. Katherine can come across as quite severe as she is very serious and mature, though she does sometimes show that she enjoys a joke here or there.
Although she might come across as a tough nut to crack, Katherine does have a softer side and she is definitely still worth pursuing in the game. Of course, Catherine as a whole is great for replay value as there are multiple endings for each love interest.
9 The Softer Side
This fan art of Katherine by khaliqa presents a more sensual woman than what players necessarily see in the game, with Katherine not showing much physical affection towards Vincent and only kissing him during the animated scene of her true ending.
Katherine could easily be described as more reserved and sensible, though that’s not to say that she’s unfeeling, as she often texts Vincent about her emotions and there are times in the game where she breaks down in tears.
8 Miss McBride
This fanart by opiu depicts Katherine in her usual outfit. Unlike her two love rivals, Catherine and Rin, Katherine is the only love interest who dresses conservatively, showing minimal skin and choosing to wear pants over a skirt. This fashion choice could be due to her dislike of boys leering at her when she was younger, as shown in the flashbacks.
Though her outfit is largely dark in color, Katherine adds a splash of blue to her look with blue nail polish, the blue jewels on her belt, and the faint blue lines on the lower half of her sweater.
7 Happier Times
This adorable artwork by irhirh captures Vincent and Katherine during much happier times, with the two sharing a tender moment and holding hands. Vincent looks as though he’s just said or done something particularly daft, which Katherine is laughing at him for, which is believable due to Vincent’s kind of dorky character.
Katherine and Vincent originally met in elementary school but didn’t enter a romantic relationship under after their high school reunion. The couple has been together for five years when the game begins, with Katherine wanting to take things to the next level and get married.
6 Year Of The Sheep
The last Year of the Sheep was in 2015, according to the Chinese zodiac calendar, and at the time artist Tatibana_2 celebrated by creating this awesome Katherine fan art, cleverly utilizing the game’s use of sheep to celebrate the new year.
This picture portrays Katherine as having what appears to be a smug-like expression as she cuddles into one of the familiar sheep from the game, likely meant to be Vincent in sheep form, though a pair of boxers with hearts all over would have been a nice addition.
5 Angel Or Devil?
Spoilers ahead. Vincent has to choose between his love interests in the game; Katherine is pressurizing him into committing to her and getting married, Catherine, on the other hand, seems like a lot of fun.
This fan art by chocographs depicts the two leading ladies as an angel and a devil, which is fitting. Although players initially might feel that Catherine is the “right” choice, it is later revealed that Catherine is a succubus sent to purposefully test men by tempting them. Arguably, Katherine is the true “right” choice, and the flashbacks in Catherine: Full Body further emphasize how long hers and Vincent’s relationship has been in the making.
4 Katherine
Artist Kuvshinov-Ilya states that they used the game’s official Venus Mode Art Book to pinpoint the style of the characters. The result is that they have managed to faithfully recreate the visual aesthetic that the franchise uses in this beautiful picture of Katherine.
Catherine bears a striking resemblance in style to the Personagames, which is understandable as both games are made by Atlus. The social parts of Catherine are also similar to the social aspects of the Persona games, where the player can interact with friends in person and via their phone in the real world.
3 Push It Real Good
This adorable artwork by nickswift shows a cute stylization of the game’s main characters while portraying the puzzle-platformer element. The gameplay of Catherine is divided into two clear aspects: the real-world where Vincent socializes with friends & his lovers, and the nightmare world that offers up puzzles for players to navigate.
The nightmare world is full of sheep, and though Vincent still looks human, he has horns and other NPCs refer to him as being a sheep. Players must navigate the level by pushing and pulling blocks to ascend as quickly as possible before the blocks fall away from underneath them.
2 Nightmare Fuel
This surrealistic art by k_amafuji is an excellent piece that shows some superb style. This nightmarish image of an abnormal Katherine is rather fitting for the game, considering Catherine deals with a world of Nightmares that Vincent must navigate through.
Though this depiction of Katherine is fairly scary, her boss form that is encountered in the game is far worse. The “Doom’s Bride,” as her boss form is called, is a creepy version of a nude Katherine in a wedding veil, wielding a knife and chasing Vincent.
1 Sweet Dreams
This stunning artwork by Kurosuke depicts a sleeping Katherine while Vincent is seen tucking her in. Katherine works as an office manager for the clothing company Bantam Suits, so this image leads fans to believe she has overworked herself so much that she has fallen asleep.
The side characters Todd and Archie also work at Bantam Suits, with Todd being the Executive Manager. You can often find them in The Stray Sheep bar, as well as their counterparts, Sheep with Regent Hair and Long-Haired Sheep, in the nightmare world.
