Netflix’s Adaptation of the cult classic game series by Konami, Castlevania has been generally well-received by the community. Season 1 was insanely short but served as an elongated proof-of-concept while Season 2 really built up and drove home the relationship between Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard. Season 3 was more of the same with a bit more intrigue and set-up for future confrontations.
Season 4 is on the horizon, and there’s still a lot from the many, many games that fans are hoping make it into the show – monster designs especially. Metroidvania’s have a lot of different creature designs after all. So, we did some research, looked around, and found these ten monsters that would be amazing to see at some point in season 4.
10 Death: A.K.A The Grim Reaper
Let’s start off with Death itself and work our way down from there. So, in Castlevania, the Grim Reaper (otherwise known as Death) is usually a boss you fight along the way to the throne room and is somehow subservient to Dracula. An absurd concept, but still insanely cool since it proves that Dracula is at the top of the food chain.
While we get how it would be a bit difficult to write a justifiable reason for Trevor or Alucard to fight Death incarnate, it could be done. For example, what if, at the end of Season 3 when that Lindenfeld cult of priests is trying to bring Dracula back from Hell, Death itself stopped Trevor and Sypha from closing the portal? They could even fight him in some other dimension.
9 Medusa Heads: The Most Annoying Of All
Medusa Heads are arguably one of the most recognizable enemies for anyone who has played classic Castlevania games such as Symphony of the Night (an all-time great from the 90s), Simon’s Quest, or even Circle of the Moon. To put it simply, they are constant annoyances that fly in wave-like patterns (usually) and are just the worst.
What’s extra odd about their background is that these things aren’t Gorgon Heads themselves, but are actually spawned from the hair of Medusa, so we could easily see them popping up in the show whenever the gang has a showdown with the fabled Greek Gorgon. And, if Trevor could call them annoying in-canon, well that would just be the icing on the cake.
8 Tons Of Skeletons (But Skelerang In Particular)
Throughout all the Castlevania iterations, there have been a ton of different skeleton enemies added into the mix. There have been basic ones that just throw bones in an arc, armored ones that use a variety of different weapons, skeletons riding on motorcycles, gigantic skeletons, and a perennial fan favorite, the skelerang.
There are so many different types of reanimated skeletal dorks in these games, yet none have shown up yet in the adaptation and that’s truly a shame.
7 Bone Pillars: Like Little Archaic Turrets
These stacked dinosaur craniums are obstacles in many of the Castlevania games, and they function sort of like automated fireball/flamethrower turrets. They first appeared in Symphony of the Night and sort of became a staple basic monster in the franchise from there (among other, much scarier monsters).
We’ve already seen a Bone Pillar skull in the underground Belmont library in season 2, but we’d love to see the full thing in action at some point.
6 Mermen: A Fan-Favorite
Mermen are just such a hilarious inclusion and, while they’ve technically shown up in group shots in Season 3, we’ve yet to see one close-up in the adaptation. In comparison to the nightmarish and eldritch horrors that Isaac, in particular, has been traveling with, the Mermen are pretty dorky-looking.
Their skin is usually pigmented in some bright color like orange or red and they do nothing but jump up at you in levels with water. But we’d love to see how Trevor would approach a fight with them. In fact, if he gets dragged underwater, the fight scene could actually be quite tense if done right.
5 The Cockatrice: We Just Want An Animated Giant Chicken
The Cockatrice is an interesting monster in folklore because it apparently comes from a chicken egg that’s been taken care of by a toad and/or snake. They are chimera-like beasts that can turn anyone to stone simply by breathing or possible looking at them. Think Medusa, but in the form of a giant chicken with a lizard tail.
These oddball creatures only appear in a few Castlevania games (or games inspired by Castlevania), but they’d make for such a great comic relief confrontation or even one that turns out to be unexpectedly dire.
4 Succubus: It’s Just Too Easy
The Netflix Castlevania adaptation isn’t one to shy away from gore or sexuality in any form, and that works for its tone. There’s even a slight theme of intelligent people being “seduced” by those with ulterior motives (Hector and Lenore or Alucard and the twins), so a Succubus would fit in quite well.
And, with the internet still reeling from seeing Lady Dimitrescu, there’s never been a better time to benefit from more fantastic vampire or demon lady designs.
3 The Doppelganger: Easy Mirror Match Action
Doppelgangers are always fun concepts to play around with. Take a character, make them fight an exact copy of themselves, and see who comes out on top. It’s why people love the Dark Link fight in Ocarina of Time, Shadow the Hedgehog from the Sonic franchise, and of course the doppelganger battles throughout Castlevania.
We’re sure fans would love to see how a fight between Sypha and fake Trevor would turn out, Fake Alucard vs. himself, or even current Trevor vs. fake Trevor before he was a drunk.
2 Olrox & Galamoth: Two Bosses With A Lot Of Lore
We tried not to include all too many “named” bosses on here, as this is more about the monsters than the bosses, but Olrox and Galamoth are two characters that constantly show up in forum threads talking about what you want to see in the next Castlevania season. Olrox is a vampire serving under Dracula who is essentially the Konami version of Nosferatu complete with the bald head and demonic alternate form.
Then there’s Galamoth – a gigantic dragon-like creature who has been trying to take over the Netherworld from Dracula for more than 10,000 years. You fight him a few times throughout the franchise, and it’s always an incredibly difficult encounter. Either of these bosses would make for absolutely fearsome designs in the adaptation.
1 Frankenstein’s Monster: This Time A Film Classic Monster
And lastly, there’s Frankenstein or should we say Frankenstein’s monster? At any rate, he’s another iconic character who would fit in so well as an unlikely ally for Alucard, Trevor, or Sypha. In fact, he’d even work as a potential savior for Hector, being a monster who understands humans while Hector is a human with a love for monsters.
Frankenstein’s monster loves to show up in vampire-based games, films, and media. Just look at the not-so-well rated, but still loved Hugh Jackman movie Vanhelsing. So, why not put him into the Netflix adaptation as well?
