In the world of Pokémon, Mewtwo is likely one of the most iconic Pokémon (besides Pikachu, since Pikachu’s pretty much the Mickey Mouse of Japan). Even if you’re not familiar with Pokémon, you’ve likely heard of or seen images of Mewtwo. He is one of the more interesting villains in the Pokémon franchise.
Mewtwo debuted in the Pokémon world in the games Pokémon Red and Blue, but likely got more popular after the film Pokémon: The First Movie. After he was created by scientists, he destroyed the laboratory he was “born” in and decided he wanted revenge on his creators and even all of humanity. This Pokémon definitely has some sociopathic tendencies, and he’s not afraid to get violent. He’s also pretty prideful, deeming himself as far superior to both Pokémon and humans.
His impressive psychic powers, such as telekinesis and telepathy, make him a pretty formidable opponent. He’s also known for learning and evolving quickly to gain the upper hand in battle, and he even has the title “World’s Most Powerful Pokémon.” Basically, if you go up in a battle against Mewtwo, you’re going to struggle. You just don’t want to mess with him.
But as powerful as Mewtwo is, he’s not all-powerful. And I think there are quite a few cartoon characters that could totally take Mewtwo in a fight and win. So here 10 cartoon characters who would destroy Mewtwo (and 10 that would get destroyed by him). Think we missed some important characters? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below!
20 It’s The Man Of Steel Himself
This one is a bit of a no-brainer, I mean, it is the Man of Steel. Superman has pretty much all the powers: super strength, speed, invulnerability, laser eyes, freezing breath, and flight. Oh, and he can survive the vacuum of space. This guy is incredibly hard to take down, and his only weakness is Kryptonite. I’m pretty sure he could pound Mewtwo into the ground and not break a sweat.
That being said, the biggest weakness Superman would have is his compassion. Superman isn’t particularly ruthless, so he may be more willing to show mercy to Mewtwo, which could go badly. Mewtwo isn’t known for his kindness, so I could see him taking advantage of Superman’s less than ruthless methods. Mewtwo could also manage to get his hands on some Kryptonite, so the fight may be a bit even.
Winner: Superman
19 That Smile Won’t Help Him
Is there really any debate about this? Not only is SpongeBob one of the most annoying cartoon characters I’ve ever come across, he’s also pretty weak. All the guy does is work at a burger place. He has very little strength, no special powers, and don’t get me started on the brains department. The guy is about as simple-minded as it gets.
I’ll admit that he does have an obscene amount of luck, so that may help him out in a battle with Mewtwo. He also has the uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time. But let’s face it, Mewtwo would not only wipe the floor with him but do it gladly if he never had to hear that annoying laugh ever again. Squidward would probably help too.
Winner: Mewtwo
18 He’s More Dangerous Than You Think
Don’t be fooled by his small size; Stitch packs quite the punch. The little experiment 626 is practically indestructible, very strong, and he is actually very smart (though you probably wouldn’t know it because of his limited vocabulary). Stitch could not only outmatch Mewtwo in strength, but also in strategy and wit. At the very least, they would be matched in brain power.
I also think Stitch would win because Mewtwo would underestimate him. Stitch doesn’t really look all that imposing or powerful, due to his size and rather cuddly appearance. Mewtwo would probably look at him and start laughing. That would give Stitch all the more advantage to thoroughly kick Mewtwo’s behind (or tail, or whatever). Don’t overlook the little ones, they will seriously mess you up.
Winner: Stitch
17 He’s Feeling A Bit Blue
Don’t get me wrong, I love Dr. Drakken for his awesome and dastardly schemes for world domination. The guy comes up with some pretty interesting plans and has some cool and imaginative technology. The guy is really smart and has built quite a few machines that could be pretty intimidating. Let’s not forget the times where he came pretty close to ruling the world.
But this guy just isn’t that powerful. While he is smart with technology, he doesn’t actually have a lot of common sense, so his plans tend to backfire or are taken down pretty easily by Kim Possible. And c’mon, if an ordinary teenage girl can take down Dr. Drakken regularly (though we do love Kim and think she’s amazing), I’m pretty sure a powerful Pokémon like Mewtwo would have very little problem.
16 He Will Definitely Smash
Similar to Superman, the Hulk is incredibly strong, and pretty much indestructible. And while he can’t fly, he can jump some pretty impressive distances. There’s also his temper. When the Hulk is angry, there’s pretty much no stopping him. So if Mewtwo ticked him off, he wouldn’t stand a chance against those green fists of fury.
Even if the Hulk is in his alternate form, Bruce Banner, Bruce would still likely try to stop Mewtwo. Except instead of fists, he’d probably use words. And I bet that Bruce would likely be able to convince Mewtwo to not destroy humanity, because as someone who’s been hunted by humans for ages, Bruce understands that pain and anger. He knows what it’s like to be angry at a group of people who want to use him. So even if Hulk couldn’t destroy Mewtwo, Bruce Banner could likely recruit him.
Winner: The Hulk
15 Was This Guy Ever Helpful?
Ugh, I actually wish I could see Mewtwo lay the smackdown on this yappy little pup. Scrappy Doo is pretty much the cartoon embodiment of those little yappy dogs that try to bite your ankles. He’s seriously annoying, and he’s essentially useless to the Scooby-Doo and his gang. He’s just a stupid sidekick with one heck of a Napoleon Complex.
Really, though, this little dog has no special abilities, no strength, and no fighting prowess. I don’t even know what the point was of having him in the show, other than to make some lame one-liners and be cute. I’m pretty sure Mewtwo would take one look at him, listen to him whine for a second, and just backhand him into the next dimension. You know, I would love to see that. Can we make that happen?
14 This Ghost Packs A Punch
At first glance, Danny may not look like much. He’s a teenage boy who’s just trying to navigate high school and deal with his crazy family. But the fact that Danny has some impressive ghost powers is what makes him pretty powerful. These powers include intangibility, invisibility, flight, ecto-blasts, the ability to travel to the ghost dimension, and let’s not forget the infamous ghost wail. And while he’s not indestructible, Danny can take a hit.
There’s also the fact that Danny is dedicated to protecting humanity. He likes to protect others and be the hero. So, he would not be happy with Mewtwo and his plans to destroy all humans. That would make him fight all that much harder to make sure Mewtwo doesn’t go through with his plans. Strength and determination make a pretty powerful combo.
Winner: Danny Phantom
13 This Kid Is So Annoying
Oh man, what was the point of Johnny Test? This kid is pretty much every obnoxious and self-centered male child cartoon character rolled into one. Yeah, his sisters were always inventing interesting things for him to try out, and his best friend is a talking dog (what is that even about?). But other than that, this kid doesn’t really have much going for him.
In a confrontation with Mewtwo, Johnny would probably spend half the time making stupid jokes about him. I think this kid alone would be enough to convince Mewtwo that the human race needs to be exterminated, and I can’t really say that I blame him. I think even with his sisters’ help, Johnny wouldn’t stand any kind of chance in a fight against Mewtwo.
12 He Will Never Stop Fighting
What’s crazy about Wolverine is that while he’s not invulnerable, his crazy healing factor makes any injury he gets pointless. The man even survived getting his skeleton torn from his body (with the help of Jean Grey). There’s also the fact that his adamantium claws are the hardest material on earth, so they likely won’t break. And finally, let’s not forget his heightened animal senses and his pretty ruthless nature. Wolverine has no qualms about killing his enemies.
The best word to describe Wolverine is “unstoppable.” The man is incredibly stubborn and doesn’t know when to quit. You get him determined to do something, and he will see it through to the end. So not only will he fight Mewtwo, he won’t stop until he’s taken Mewtwo down. The Pokémon never stood a chance.
Winner: Wolverine
11 She Doesn’t Like To Fight, Apparently
The X-Men were quite the varied group with all different kinds of powers. Some were very powerful, like Storm and Wolverine. Some were incredibly smart like Hank Mcoy, also known as The Beast. And then there’s Jubilee. Jubliee’s powers were to make blinding, exploding energy blasts (fireworks, she makes fireworks.)
Granted, if used right, those powers could be pretty impressive. But the problem is Jubilee really doesn’t fight. She spends half the time in the cartoon series running away and lamenting her lot in being a mutant. Really, she just whines a lot, and it’s pretty annoying. If she had to fight against someone like Mewtwo, she’d probably just panic, try to run away, and when she couldn’t, start crying. Sorry Jubilee, you just really wouldn’t be a match against this Pokémon.
10 You Don’t Want To Mess With These Ladies
I’m putting these two together since I think they’re both very powerful and well-matched for different reasons. But these two Teen Titans are likely the most powerful ones on the team. Starfire can send blasts of pure energy to her enemies through her hands and even her eyes. She’s also very strong, can fly, and can take a pretty hard hit. Raven’s abilities lie in darkness and the shadows. She often uses telekinesis to lift objects. She can also overwhelm you with her shadows and pretty much make you go insane.
There’s also the fact that Starfire is from another planet, and Raven is a half-demon from another dimension. The two are very different people, but their powers are fueled by their emotions. Basically, you don’t want to make these two mad, or they will make you wish you had never been born (or created in Mewtwo’s case.)
Winner: Starfire and Raven
9 You Have To Give Him Credit For Trying
Okay, I actually adore Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz and his crazy schemes to take over the Tri-State Area. Yeah, he isn’t even aiming for world domination at this point, just a few states. Doofenshmirtz is endlessly entertaining with his crazy plans, and he’s surprisingly funny with his wit. You kind of forget half the time that he’s supposed to be this evil supervillain.
But let’s face it, this guy is really not that dangerous or powerful. He does make some impressive machines that often defy the laws of physics, but they tend to backfire on him rather spectacularly. I don’t even think Mewtwo would have to do much to defeat him: Doofenshmirtz would just defeat himself. Sorry, Heinz, you get points for being creative and rather funny, but Mewtwo would likely take you down with very little effort.
8 She Will Take You Down
Yay for girl power! Wonder Woman is seriously so powerful, you don’t even know. She’s very strong, she can fly (well, depending on the version), she can take a hit (a lot of hits), and she’s got years and years of combat training on her belt. Let’s also not forget her awesome bracelets that deflect bullets, other powers, and her lasso of truth.
Wonder Woman is also very protective of humanity. She sees it as something worth fighting for, and she would never let anyone threaten it. And there’s the fact that she’s a warrior through and through. So, the fight between her and Mewtwo would likely not end well. If Mewtwo ever went up against her, he would have a very hard time. Wonder Woman would annihilate him, and likely enjoy doing it.
Winner: Wonder Woman
7 Iconic Does Not Mean Powerful
Now, we all love Mickey Mouse. He’s become quite the iconic character worldwide. He’s the mascot of Disney, he’s funny, and he’s a rather lovable character (though some people do find him annoying). Mickey Mouse cartoons were some of Disney’s earliest animations, and he’s come a long way since then. But when it comes to combat, Micky doesn’t really have anything going for him.
Yes, he does seem to have a large amount of good luck that tends to get him out of sticky situations, but if it came down a full-on fight, I don’t think he would do well at all. Mewtwo would probably crush the poor mouse. Maybe Mickey could make friends with the sociopathic Pokémon instead of fighting him. Eh, probably not. Sorry, Mickey!
6 He Did Literally Take Over The World
Remember the very powerful demon named Aku from Samurai Jack? He was so strong that even when he had been beaten by Jack and was moments away from death’s door, he still had enough strength to summon a portal and send Jack forward in time. This is also the demon who actually managed to succeed in taking over the world. Do you know how many bad guys have actually done that in a kids’ show? Aku managed to enslave the entire human race (and many other races as well)!
In fact, that’s probably why he’d fight Mewtwo. He’d see it as “this Pokémon is intruding on my turf.” He’s the top dog here, and no upstart psychic Pokémon is going to ruin his plans. Essentially, you really don’t want to mess with Aku, because even if he doesn’t kill you personally, he’ll send his endless robots to do the job.
Winner: Aku
5 Scary Doesn’t Always Cut It
Since his creation in 1940, the Joker has both terrified us and made us laugh. Who would’ve thought clowns could be so scary? (Well, practically everybody.) This guy has been a thorn in Batman’s side for a long time and has done some pretty horrible things. He’s definitely someone you wouldn’t want to mess with; if he didn’t kill you, he’d likely torture you.
But I don’t think he’d stand a chance against Mewtwo. The thing is that Joker more or less specializes in tormenting and killing humans. He knows how the human brain works, and he knows just what to do to freak you out. But that wouldn’t work on Mewtwo. Even Joker’s crazy traps likely wouldn’t work on him, since he would just destroy them. When it comes to raw power, Joker just doesn’t have what it takes.
4 He Plays Many Heroes
Ben is another human who doesn’t seem like much at first glance. But his powers are pretty impressive. Thanks to the Omnitrix, Ben can actually turn into several different kinds of aliens, all with unique powers. This versatility makes him a pretty intimidating opponent. Once he combines these abilities with strategy, Ben can take down virtually any enemy, especially if he knows their weakness.
One downside to Ben’s powers is that they are dependent on his Omnitrix, which has a time limit for how long he can be an alien. And it needs to recharge in between transformations. But he could likely take down Mewtwo quickly without having to worry about that. Ben is also pretty quick on his feet and adaptable, so he could fairly easily analyze Mewtwo to see how to defeat him.
Winner: Ben 10
3 How Old Is This Kid?
Those of you not familiar with this particularly interesting villain, Gideon Gleeful is a fake psychic that runs a show to entertain people. But what many don’t know is that Gideon dabbles in real magic and even has a pendant that lets him levitate himself and other objects. The kid does have some intense magical powers and an even more intense temper.
But with all his power, Gideon doesn’t pose a lot of a threat. He’s a bit childish in that if he doesn’t get his way, he throws a bit of a tantrum. He also doesn’t really think his plans through either, so they usually end up falling apart. The kid definitely has big dreams, but he tends to fail at achieving them. If he went up against Mewtwo, he wouldn’t stand much of a chance.
2 This Kid Could End You
I know what you’re thinking: a twelve-year-old could take down Mewtwo? Initially, Aang doesn’t seem like much, since he acts like your average twelve-year-old, and he is a pretty goofy kid. But that’s the thing. Aang is the Avatar, which means he’s capable of bending all four elements. And Aang learned how to bend all the elements in the space of a year, whereas most Avatars took a lifetime to master them.
No matter how you look at it, Aang has some scary powers and when he combines them together and goes into his Avatar State, he’s a formidable opponent. Granted, Aang generally isn’t a violent person, so Mewtwo would likely have to really make him angry before he started fighting him. But if you push him far enough, Aang is willing to do what it takes to protect the people he cares about.
Winner: Aang
1 Has This Guy Ever Won A Battle?
Depending on the version of TMNT, the Shredder could either be a bumbling opponent, or a rather terrifying and ruthless villain. There’s also the trope that he keeps coming back after he’s supposedly dead (seriously this guy refuses to die). While some versions of Shredder would likely give Mewtwo a run for his money, Shredder from the 1987 TMNT series wouldn’t stand a chance.
This Shredder is pretty much the definition of incompetent. His combat skills are not that great, he relies too much on his henchmen (who also are incompetent), and half the time he’s arguing with Kraang on what to do. This guy, while pretty funny, is a rather pathetic villain. Mewtwo would take him down in an instant, and probably the rest of his crew too.
