The question of game prices for the next-generation of systems has been confounding fans across the world, and it seems that developers and publishers are equally unsure about future costs, as Capcom has confirmed that it hasn’t settled on a price for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X games.
There has been some confusion regarding the price of next-generation games, with companies giving different answers as to how much they will sell their future titles for. It’s speculated that the price of games will increase by ten dollars/euros/pounds in each region, but this shift might not happen straight away. It’s likely that publishers will wait for the next-generation systems to start receiving killer exclusives before increasing the price.
One company that has publicly stated that they are unsure of next-gen prices is Capcom. The company was asked about the prospect of PS5 and Xbox Series X prices during a recent investor Q&A. According to Android Central, Capcom is still deciding on how much they should charge for upcoming games.
“We do not have a set policy at this time. We will consider our approach having analyzed both our strengths and weaknesses while closely monitoring industry trends.”
The idea of a gradual shift in price makes a lot of sense, especially as a global recession is happening and expensive video games are going to drop in priority pretty sharply. Capcom doesn’t need to announce the prices of their upcoming next-gen games just yet, especially as games like Resident Evil: Village are a long way off.
